Maths

Through our daily maths lesson and a richly resourced maths environment, we support each child's development towards the 'Early Learning Goals' in number and shape, space & measures:

  • count reliably with numbers from 1-20
  • place numbers 1-20 in order and say which is 1 more and 1 less than a given number
  • using quantities and objects, add and subtract two single digit numbers
  • count on or back to solve addition and subtraction problems
  • solve problems including doubling, halving and sharing
  • use everyday language to talk about size, weight, capacity, position, distance, time and money
  • compare quantities and objects and solve problems
  • recognise, create and describe patterns
  • explore characteristics of everyday objects and shapes and use mathematical language to describe them

Children acqire these skills at different rates and are supported or extended as appropriate. They are encouraged to work practically at every level and to challenge themselves. They are helped to explore a wide range of resources to help them visualise key concepts.

We send regular maths challenges home that relate to the skills we have been practising and give you ideas for supporting or exendng your child's learning.
