Caterpillars, Book Week and the Library!

Class: Reception Year: 2014 - 2015

Welcome back! We hope you had a great Easter Break.

We have some exciting visitors in Reception... caterpillars!

We are going to be watching them grow and change over the next few weeks, and hopefully releasing them as butterflies before the half term holiday. We will be encouraging the children to record observations in a diary, formulate questions, research facts and present information to each other.

As a start to this area of learning, we have all enjoyed a Book Week based around Eric Carle's classic story 'The Hungry Caterpillar'. We hope that any children who have this book at home have been showing you their fabulous reading and we encourage anyone who does not own the book to track a copy down at the library, or even buy one so that your child can amaze you with their skills!

We visited the library again today and several children chose non-fiction books on insects to help them find out more about our caterpillars. As the term progresses, we hope to widen our topic out to include other 'minibeasts', so any research your child would like to do at home would be greatly welcomed!
