Reception Library Trip (2)

Class: Reception Year: 2014 - 2015

Reception made a return trip to the library this week. It was a very cold walk, but much less wet than last time and we all enjoyed a good chat along the way!

The children were enthusiastic about choosing new books for our classrooms, with a focus on great looking stories and interesting information books. One little boy was heard to say "Where's my book? I want to read it!" as soon as we got back to school, and spent the rest of the morning immersed in his dinosaur information book, undistracted even by children playing and getting ready for lunch all around him! We spent a lovely afternoon sharing our books, comparing fiction and non-fiction, describing them to each other and learning to read the titles, all of which goes to show what a valuable, motivating experience regular library trips are for the childen.

Our trip out was made all the more enjoyabe by a visit to the Community Cafe at St Chad's Church. We were made to feel very welcome and the children all got to put the money skills they have been focussing on this week into practise by paying for juice and a biscuit and taking their change. They all behaved impeccably and we received many compliments about them from the staff and customers in the cafe. We look forward to a return visit next half term!

Thank you to all our helpers, without whom the trip would not be possible. Please watch out for next half term's date and see if you are available to help - the children love to have a family member accompany them!
