Year 1 'Journey to Manchester' 3rd July 2014

Class: Year 1 / 2 Year: 2013 - 2014

We have had the most fantastic day in Manchester today. We travelled on the train from Handforth station to Manchester Piccadilly. Then caught the tram to Deansgate and then continued on foot to the Manchester Museum of Science and Industry.

We took part in a brilliant, and very funny, workshop with Engineer Eric and his, rather lazy, assistant Firewoman Freda. We learned all about how steam locomotives are powered and how they move.

It was definitely lunchtime after such a busy morning and afterwards we headed to the Air and Space gallery to do some observational drawings of one of the many vehicles within the gallery. The huge military aircraft was very popular as were the many of the vintage cars and aircraft.

The final part of the day was our return journey back to Piccadilly on the tram. On the way to the tram station we were amazed at how tall the Beatham Tower is and how brave the window cleaner was who was suspended on ropes and cleaning the glass about 20 floors up. He looked just like a real life Spider-Man.

From Piccadilly we got back on the train and returned back to Handforth just in time for home time.

What an experience for our children and a big halo polish for outstanding sensible behaviour all day. Thank you to all our grown up helpers. We hope you had fun.

Have a look at some photos of our day.
